“Bringing the Festival Experience to West Somerset”
that’s the slogan  for the Watchet Music Festival, staged and organised by the Watchet Carnival Club who’s motto “ We Will not give in” certainly shows after staging the pervious two years festival in such poor summer weather! Over the August Bank Holiday weekend 28-30th Watchet Carnival Club have planned a weekend of live musical entertainment with over 25 live acts ranging in music styles from Rock to Ska, Indie to Dance, Hip hop to swing!

A spokes person for the Festival stated that each day at this festival this year will have a music gender theme, Friday night is tribute night on the Main Stage with a Meatloaf and a Kylie Tribute to get the weekend warmed up, Saturday is Original music day with  acts performing there own material, including “3 Daft monkeys”, “Los Albertos” and The Men they Couldn’t Hang” Sunday is being billed as West Country day with a Fancy Dress “ Super Heroes and Villains” theme with by popular demand “The Wurzels” headlining the festival with support from “ Penthouse Shed”  “Dynamos Rhythm aces” and the “Re Offenders”  along with the winning bands of last year  West Somerset’s “Battle of the Bands” Jack To Jack and Mrs Sippi.

As in pervious years the Udder stage will host the final of this years “Battle of the Bands” along with a wide range of live acts including Solo acts, Bands, MC’s and D’J’s. The popular “Twisted disco”, “Something Else Tea Tent , Open Mic Tent”. and a Kids Corner make a welcome return .The 2009 festival sees new attractions added to the festival including Street Dance demonstrations, and the “Colderidge Poetry society” adding an arts element to the proceedings. The Family camping area was a popular request added last year and is on again this year.  The Last Night of the proms evening has been dropped from the bill this year but the organiser state will return in future years!

Carnival Club Chairman Mark Bale was pleased to announce and welcome Butlins and Magna Housing as two new sponsors to this years event sponsors. “I’m really pleased that Butlins have come on board as a major sponsor for the Watchet Music Festival as one of the countries major entertainment venues we can learn a lot from them and look forward to working with them, Likewise with Magna Housing a major name in the West Country who will help spread the word of what we are staging and will help bring more people to the Festival and into West Somerset. I would also like to thank the support and interest from numerous other Somerset based organisations including Somerset Youth Volunteer service and Engage who have helped steer us in new directs to help evolve the festival. Along with the constructive comments we had from other Festival organisers who attended last years event we still have a long way to go before we are totally happy with the festival however we learn year on year.

This year we are continuing supporting and raising awareness of the “Children’s Hospice S.W” by staging the festival and welcome any other local charities to come along and raise their awareness profile at the festival
